Location: Reus, Tarragona
Architect: Lluis Domčnech i Montaner
Built between 1901 and 1907, Domčnech i Montaner planned this building for Joaquim Navās to serve both as a new residence and a commercial establishment. During the Spanish Civil War, a bombing raid destroyed the sleek tower that was situated on the corner.
Probably the most remarkable characteristic of the Casa Navās is its magnificent interior decoration, which remains practically intact thanks to the care taken by its owners. The ceramics, the mosaics, the etched reliefs, the stonework and the stained-glass windows of the Casa Navās are magnificent examples of the decorative arts favoured in Catalan modernism. The furniture, which was largely designed and created by Gaspar Homar, is another point of interest in this lovely house.
The house is open to the public by appointment and is definitely worth paying a visit.
