Location: Barcelona, Eixample district
Architect: Lluis Domčnech i Montaner
The building of the former Montaner i Simon publishing house, a work of the architect Lluķs Domčnech i Montaner, now holds the Fundació Antoni Tąpies, a cultural center and museum dedicated mainly to the life and works of the painter Antoni Tąpies. Located in Carrer d'Aragó, it was restored and refurbished by the architects Roser Amadó and Lluķs Domčnech Girbau, including a sculture by Tąpies that fills the gap between the adjacent buildings.
Constructed between 1880 and 1885, at an early stage of the evolution of Catalan Modernisme style, the building was the first in the Eixample to integrate industrial typology, combining exposed brick and iron.
